S2-XM

HUKI S2-XM, mid-size Unlimited Class Double's Surfski:

The new HUKI S2-XM is a mid-sized tandem surf ski already in production and making waves. Introduced in March of 2012, the S2-XM is an all-conditions model aimed at small to mid-framed people weighing between 110-190 lbs each. The ski can handle a maximum combined paddler weight of 400 lbs (180 kg) in rough water and even greater weight in flats. She is 24 feet-2 inches long and 19.75 inches wide at the widest point. She is nearly all waterline and her 'beam' (width) at the waterline is less than 18 inches under a pair of mid-sized men. Precisely 17.3 inch beam at the waterline under a combined weight of 315 Lbs. The S2-XM is plenty stable for intermediate skills and plenty fast for advanced paddlers. Unlike our high volume S2-X, this surfski has a much lower profile from the side view and offers less windage, less weight, and greater ease of remount. All together she is far less bulky than our original S2-X.

The S2-XM has very narrow catch zones along the sides of both cockpits to allow a full length pull at the most powerful end of the stroke.. The rear cockpit shows the most dramatic cut-aways on each side of the foot-well and thus the catch zone narrows to just over 18 inches. The already narrow sides along the front cockpit also have cut-aways on the gunwales that allow one of the narrowest catch zones for a double surfski available. The low rims of each seat allow for very easy remount and spill water from the cockpits quickly. The rear cockpit can spill forward into the back of the leading paddler, then out the sides of his seat as well. We have plenty of volume in the fore-body and a very steeply ridged fore-deck to spill water and recover from pearling. The fore-hull has a sharp 'V', also to assist in recovering from deep pearling. The rocker is nicely even through out with a slight increase at the rudder, where the rocker increases slightly to gain greater maneuverability. The rudder position is 4ft-2in from the tip of the tail, making her extremely nimble and making sure that your rudder stays in contact with water and keeps a deep bite.

On the S2-XM, the cockpits have the wide foot-wells and heel-plates and medium seat-wells that successfully fit small to medium-sized backsides & some wider-sized pelvises. You can wear most sandals or booties, and self-bailing foot-well drains come standard. We can install bungees on the fore-deck and aft-deck, in the cockpit, or wherever wanted. We can place stow hatches at both ends of the cockpit, as well as under your knees where you can place your water system, among other things, for easy access while on the water. For those paddlers who need to store large items, we can install much larger hatches than the three sizes seen in our website... Just email jude@huki.com to ask about other hatch options. We can install a variety of custom items like recessed handles, external handles, anchor blocks for mounting lights, cameras, or hook loops. We can also create eye holes through the stem and stern for end ties.

Our rudders play a big part in the agility of our surfskis. We offer six different thru-hull rudders, and each will change the handling so significantly that you would think it was a different surfski. Interchanging between thru-hull rudders takes 15 seconds and does not require any tools. The S2-XM has the HUKI adjustable response rudder system that is only found on Huki paddle craft and that allows you to adjust how responsive the ski will be to the push of the pedal. The kick-up rudder is a fantastic addition to the S1-R. It will mount onto the transom with a pull pin, and extension cables will join to the standard cables with the clevis pins that come off the thru-hull rudder's yoke. Conversion from thru-hull rudder to kick-up will take about a minute without need for any tools.

The S2-XM is available in a variety of constructions for paddlers' particular needs. We offer open-ocean racing constructions that are super light and stiff. We have everything from recreational constructions to log-hopper and even rock-hopper constructions for river racers and adventure racers. Finally, we can modify any of our constructions to better suit your desires for lightness, durability and price.
